Chamonix Mont Blanc (March 2017)

Planning this trip, I had two objectives that I wanted to achieve: to visit Colmar and to go up Mont Blanc.  I liked the idea of taking a cable car up to the top of Mont Blanc to take in the view.

I decided that I would use Annecy as my staging point from Colmar, before moving on to Chamonix Mont Blanc, to give it its full name.  I arrived at Annecy quite late in the evening, to find the only Aire I knew of, full to capacity.  During March, it is difficult to find many campsites open, so I did struggle to find somewhere.  Fortunately, the Parkings app came to my rescue and found me an Aire in Sevrier.  It’s about 2.5 miles outside Annecy, but it was on the cycle path to Annecy and it was free.

The next morning, I headed for Chamonix Mont Blanc and parked in a park and ride by the Aiguille du Midi cable car station.  This is the cable car that gets you closest to Mont Blanc.

It costs €60 to ascend and it’s worth every penny.  One thing to note, when the cable car passed the supporting girders, it tends to rock like a pendulum.  Hopefully, prior warning will avoid you from flying into the middle of the car, with only the outstretched hand of a stranger to save your blushes.

I’ll leave you with some of my favourite pictures.  Until next time.
